Dairy Conversions for Baking and Cooking
Dairy ingredients vary widely in density. Sweetened condensed milk (306g per cup) is nearly 30% heavier than whole milk (244g per cup) because of its concentrated sugar content. Shredded cheese is the lightest at only 113g per cup due to the air between the shreds.
Butter: Cups, Sticks, and Grams
In the US, butter is often sold in sticks and measured in tablespoons. 1 cup of butter = 2 sticks = 16 tablespoons = 227 grams. Our butter converter handles all these units and also supports metric (250ml) and imperial (284ml) cup sizes.
Cream Cheese and Soft Cheeses
Cream cheese is commonly sold in 8oz (226g) blocks in the US, which is approximately 1 cup when measured by weight. However, if you're measuring by volume (spooning it into a cup), the measurement is less consistent. Weight measurement is always recommended for cream cheese.
